Stay Safe on New Year’s Eve

Stay safe on new year's eve

The Georgia Governor’s Highway Safety Association has a great way to help you stay safe on New Year’s Eve.

We all know that this weekend can be a dangerous time on the roads in Georgia and around the country. There are more people traveling to different destinations. And more people are celebrating the coming New Year with the use of alcohol.

Increased Fatalities and DUIs at the New Year

And so, there tends to be an uptick in traffic fatalities and DUIs this time of year as well. In fact, the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics suggest more than a third of Georgia’s New Year’s holiday traffic fatalities from 2017 to 2021 involved a drunk driver.

If You Plan on Drinking, Get a Lyft and $20 Ride Credit

But, you do not have to let a DUI or an alcohol-related traffic accident ruin your New Year revelry this year, even if you are planning to drink. The Georgia Governor’s Highway Safety Association has partnered with Lyft, the ride-share company, to give out $20 ride credits this holiday season!

To get the credit, you just need to create a Lyft account or enter the app and enter this discount code: GAGOHS2023 or just scan this barcode. There are some stipulations on the credit. For example, it can only be used for one ride. And it must be used within two weeks of being claimed. The credits are available between 9pm and 6am until Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

Also, if you plan to host a New Year’s Eve party, we have some tips for how to help your friends and family stay safe.
